File type

Post by bobbfrommn » Thu Oct 23, 2014 7:26 am

Great program so far! One thing that might be nice is the ability to constrain the search to specific file types or exclude results that include a file type. For example my media player does a poor job with MKV files so I try not to download those. Anyway just a thought.

The filter will let you choose between Music, Movies, Pictures, etc, but it won't let you filter by file type.

May I suggest VLC Media Player... It can play pretty much any file type. And if you want something that can stream your files to your TV or wifi connected devices, check out Plex Media Server.

Both VLC Media Player and Plex Media Server are free.

I would like to search by file type for my downloads.
I use a WD media streaming device with a USB flash drive mounted on the WD.
The WD is a Linux box and not based on Windows or Apple IOS.
My main reasons are security and malware protection.
This is my expertise in the wild world of the Internet.
So movies are directly downloaded and stored on my WD streaming media device USB Flash drive.
Then directly streamed to my TV.
Some files types are not supported and I have downloaded many movies that will not play. 8-)
I would appreciate your help.
Awesome job on Torrent Rover.
The new added feature of reminding us to enable peer blocker is perfect.
Thank You !

The issue from our perspective is how to filter the list. Not all search sites even show a files list on their site. And what do we do if there is nothing that matches the filter criteria. Just show nothing?? The bottom line is that the sites we search on do not support this kind of filter, so there's no way to force those results to the top.

What file types are you trying to get? If you're after movies, maybe you should just find an uploader that has the right file type and use that.

I know a lot of people like YIFY. He does x264 .mp4 rips*. Is that compatible with your streaming device??

You can even setup a "download all" search if you want. It's a paid/reward feature, but it would allow you to download ALL YIFY rips over a point limit. Here's what it would look like (Automation section is important):
