download failed

Post by dansmail26 » Mon Nov 16, 2015 11:35 am

I keep getting 'download failed' when trying to start a download. The highlited book I am trying for will have a 'moving' bar on it for a short time then the download failed message comes up. I am using the most current version of TR and Windows 7.

Sorry to hear your having this problem.

There are a couple things that may cause this problem.

1. If the result is from an old search, the torrent may no longer exist. Try refreshing the search results (re-run the search).
2. If you are using the proxy option to search and download, it probably won't work. The proxy service we used to use (Anonymouse.org) no longer allows proxying ssl/https pages for free. We have a new service working in our dev build, but it hasn't been released to the public yet.

Came back and tried it again a few hours later, it worked fine. Nothing changed as far as connections, proxy, etc. Not sure why this happened. I even ysed the old search when I started TR.

latest version (1.07) and most of 3 strikes versions have a bug; if a download fails it counts towards your 3 free downloads. this is especially anoying as bitsnoop never works and it's about the only tracker that finds stuff now that kickass is dead as fried chicken.

The official KickassTorrents is dead. True. But there is a successor, and TorrentRover now supports kickass.mx.

As for the download failures, the links are correct. There is no way to know whether the download would succeed or fail from our servers without downloading it there, which would slow down the process and leave me open to legal issues. If it fails to download from BitSnoop, don't use BitSnoop. Use KickassTorrents or ThePirateBay.

If you're worried about your number of free downloads, just complete a reward offer. It takes about 20 seconds and it gives you UNLIMITED downloads for a week.

Thanks for that John, kickass.mx works well, its just anoying that the program tells the user the download has failed but can't tell itself that the count should not be reduced for a failed download. Still it's a handy app even with this bug so many thanks:-)

You're very welcome. The issue about the download count is that the count is changed on the server, but the failure happens afterwards back in the app. There would need to be another call after the failure to correct the count on the server. I'll get around to fixing it soon. For now, rewards are your friend I guess.

Ok John looks like another download related bug has crept in this Halloween, basically when you do a download you now get two pesky windows, one is a torrent client window saying "You need to download and install a torrent client..." (I have one installed) and the other is a Free Apps 1,2,3 window (which keeps opening even if don't show is ticked), these two windows somehow interrupt the download and if never arrives but alas the app counts it as one of your free downloads.
