Torrent filled with malware

I did a search for lightroom 7.5. There is a verified download from kick ass torrents by jagbr that I downloaded. It was full of malware and viruses. I went over to kick ass torrents to report it, but it doesn't even exist there. Confused where it came from and why it is verified on torrent rover.

There is an easy way to find out what sites are used in TorrentRover and to find the torrent result page. It may only work if you are in trial, have a reward, or have an active subscription though. Just right click on a torrent, click on Details, and when the Details page opens, you can click on the torrent title to see the torrent page. Also, if you click on the main site image in the Details page, you'll go to the site's home page.

The original Kickass Torrents has recently been resurrected, but last I checked (yesterday), it was still very slow. I just checked again, and it timed out. They're still working on bringing all the systems and data back online. For now, TorrentRover still uses one of the mirrors, kickass.cd.

Also, Verified can mean different things on different sites. Some sites use Verified to mean that the uploader is a verified uploader (trusted). Other sites mean that the content is verified. Others mean that the content is verified and checked for viruses.

I'm really sorry you got a file that wasn't clean. Please practice normal safety procedures. Scan you files before you use them.

Once katcr.co is fully back to normal, I'll switch TorrentRover back to that.

-The problem with scanning a file is many of these 'cracks' are identified as bad but aren't really, it's tough to tell.
-Aren't the check marks for verified put in by torrent rover?
-A nice improvement would be for a torrent rover user to be able to flag a bad torrent, thats what I was trying to do when I went to kick ass and couldn't even find the torrent there.

We don't verify torrents ourselves. There are way too many torrents for us to do that.

Those verified check marks come from the search site where the torrent was found. Not all sites show this info, but we pick it up from the ones who do.

I would guess that a false "verified" torrent is extremely rare. In the 7+ year history of TorrentRover, this is the first time I've ever heard of a verified torrent having a virus.

I'm very sorry it happened to you, but unfortunately TorrentRover just shows the data that the original search site shows.

If you want to report the torrent on the original search site, you can do that. You must have an active reward or subscription to open that within TorrentRover though. Otherwise, just go to kickass.cd and find the same torrent.

I guess somebody caught it, the torrent doesn't exist anymore. Meanwhile I am still trying to get rid of it's aftereffects!

I knew you couldn't test them, but I thought the verification came from your users, but I understand.

It would be nice though if there was a way a user could put a warning on one from tr, similar to the 'ban' button but for all users to be told to be aware!

I'm glad it got caught. I'm sorry it didn't get caught in time to help you any.

I could add the ability for TorrentRover users to flag torrents within TorrentRover, but in order to use that info, all queries would have to go to our servers. We just don't have that kind of load capacity. And this would slow all TorrentRover searches. I don't think it's feasible at this time.

If you want my recommendation on how to remove the malware, I have always had great success with Avast Free Antivirus and MalwareBytes.

Yes, I had to use malwarebytes plus roguekiller plus adaware (that's actually the best, try that next time) plus cccleaner.
It was a tough one!

thanks for everything!

I used to run a little computer shop called Happy Computer Repair, and I've used all those programs. I still use Avast Antivirus and MalwareBytes. I run AdAware every once in awhile. And I run CCleaner anytime my machine seems slow. Good stuff.
